Education and Awareness
As students residing in Calamba, we have observed a gradual shift in land use towards commercialization. Specifically, in Looc, Calamba, Laguna, where rice planting predominantly occupied the land in February 2015, we've witnessed changes over the years. The once agricultural area has seen the emergence of small stalls, and as of 2024, a gas station has been established, marking a transformation in land utilization.
In addition to the changes observed in the Looc land area, another significant transformation has occurred in Bañadero. Formerly dedicated to rice planting, the land there has undergone a shift in purpose over the years. Individuals acquired the land and constructed houses, transforming it into a suitable location for a subdivision. As a result, in our current year, what was once a field of rice plants has now become a residential area with clusters of houses.
These examples show how some areas in Calamba, Laguna, originally used for other purposes, are now being turned into commercial spaces. As students, it's important for us to stay informed to these changes in our physical environment because they have a big impact on our daily lives. If more land is used for businesses instead of farming, it could affect our future food supply, and that's one reason why prices for many products are high now since we don't have enough resources for food production. Which is why our website, Evergreen, is here to help spread knowledge and awareness so that, together, we can take small but consistent actions to make positive changes. Keep in mind that our combined efforts can make a huge difference in our society.
